Update from our country director in Haiti (Jan. 27)

We received an email from our country director in Petit-Goave and I decided to post it in its entirety to help you understand the current situation. I will, of course, translate it into English, too. English Hello Brother James. I want you to know that I am alive and my family is okay, too. In the earthquake lots of people lost their lives. My house is damaged, but nothing else happened to us, thanks to God. Right now, most people are sleeping in the streets. My family and I spent three nights sleeping in a field without a tent or anything. It has been very difficult because my wife just gave birth 2 months ago. We had to sleep on the ground with the baby. We are still sleeping outside, but we are better because we are sleeping in the courtyard of the church. None of the children in the program (receiving scholarships) were killed in the earthquake, but some of the schools were destroyed. The situation has become very complicated in Haiti. Everything that used to work is not working anymore. The banks are closed. Many people are very worried because the earth is still shaking, but not as strong as before.

Kreyol Bonjou frè james / .Mwen vle fè w konnen mwen vivan ak tout fanmi mwen nan trableman tè ki sot fè kote anpil moun pèdi la vi yo an hayiti. Se sèlman kay mwen ki krake ,men nou pa gen anyen gras a Dye. Kounye a se nan la ri majorite moun ap dòmi an hayiti. Kounye a nou toujou ap dòmi deyò ,men kondisyon an miyò kounye a paske se nan lakou legliz la nap dòmi. Pa gen timoun ki mouri nan pwogram lan, men gen kèk lekòl yo ki kraze. Sitiyasyon an vin pi konlike an hayiti . Tout bagay kite konn mache pa fonksyone. Menm bank yo ponkò louvri. Anpil moun toujou sou tansyon pake tè a toujou ap tranble., men pa avèk menm fòs.
